Chemours Nonstick Coatings Resources
The unique combination of properties inherent to all Chemours Nonstick coatings make them a natural choice in a number of industries. The tables below break down the Thermal, Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical properties of the four primary product lines of Chemours Nonstick PTFE, FEP, PFA, and ETFE. Featured Chemours Nonstick Coating LinesPTFE – PolytetrafluoroethylenePTFE nonstick coatings are two-coat (primer/topcoat) systems. PTFE products have the highest operating temperature of any fluoropolymer (500°F/260°C), an extremely low coefficient of friction, good abrasion resistance, and good chemical resistance. |

FEP – Fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymerFEP nonstick coatings melt and flow during baking to provide nonporous films with excellent chemical resistance. FEP coatings have very low friction and excellent nonstick coating properties, with a maximum use temperature of 400°F/204°C. PFA – PerfluoroalkoxyLike FEP, PFA nonstick coatings melt and flow during baking to provide nonporous films. PFA’s properties include a higher maximum use temperature of 500°F/260°C and improved toughness making it an excellent choice for a wide variety uses, especially those involving chemical resistance. ETFE –Copolymer of ethylene and tetrafluoroethyleneAlthough not fully fluorinated, ETFE coatings have excellent chemical resistance and can operate continuously at 300°F/149°C. This resin is the toughest of the fluoropolymer coatings and can be applied at film builds up to 2,000 micrometers (80 mils). Primary Chemmours Nonstick Coating PropertiesThermal Properties of Chemours NonstickCoatingsChemours Nonstick coatings can operate continuously at temperatures up to 550°F/290°C and can be used intermittently to 600°F/315°C with adequate ventilation. The table below outlines those Max Use Temperatures as well as Flame Rating, Limiting Oxygen Index, and Thermal Conductivity, among others. Chemours Nonstick Coatings: Mechanical PropertiesChemours nonstick coatings are both hydrophobic and oleophobic as well as very resistant to scratches and abrasion due to their excellent durability and toughness. The table below provides data on Hardness, Coefficient of Friction, Abrasion Resistance, Specific Gravity, and Tensile Strength, among others.
Chemours Nonstick Coatings: Electrical PropertiesOver a wide range of frequencies, Chemours Nonstick fluoropolymers have high dielectric strength (typically 2000 V/mil), low dissipation factor and very high surface resistivity. Data for these properties as well as dielectric constant, arc resistance, and volume resistivity are outlined below. Chemours Nonstick Coatings: Chemical Resistance PropertiesChemours Nonstick coatings are normally unaffected by chemical environments and are great anti-corrosion coatings. Below, find data on Chemical/Solvent Resistance, Water Absorption, Salt Spray Resistance, Detergent Resistance, and Weather Resistance (Florida Exposure).
The values shown in these tables represent average occurrences from numerous testing sources and are not intended to be specifications. These values will vary depending upon the individual compositions for the primers, topcoats and systems used.
